Equae is a mage and fence that assists Amaeus and Rhzoreck in obtaining the Harmonic Triad and Kavrenthak's journals and planbook.

Background

Equae was raised in Verdishang by Aurilore parents. It is unknown where his birth parents are or if they are still alive. He does not know how or why he was separated from his birth parents, but that has not bothered him much. He was given unlimited access to the University of Arcane Knowledge grounds and trained from a young age in the use of magic, primarily Primal magic but occasionally other types of magic as well.

As he grew older, he started getting involved with the criminal underbelly of the city. He found himself drawn to collecting powerful artifacts, although he also found that he didn't necessarily wish to keep them on hand. His fun came from researching them and locating them, which he decided to put to use by becoming a certified relic dealer. Once he could properly evaluate the value of any given relic or artifact, he turned his skills back toward supplying such items under the table to those with the coin to pay for them. Eventually, after becoming a professor at the University, he switched to mainly accepting stolen goods in exchange for coin, or more usually, magical knowledge. He has developed a small clientele for rare and powerful artifacts, though, so he still maintains that service for those who have the coin.

The Harmonic Era

During the Harmonic Era, Equae worked as a fence serving the Invisible Union from his position in the University of Arcane Knowledge. He was contacted by Amaeus Lorendil, who requested his assistance in obtaining a set of ancient artifacts called the Harmonic Triad. After receiving letters of recommendation for both Amaeus and his associate, Rhzoreck, Equae determined that he would need to investigate the latter individual in person to validate his claims of being a Duuema. After his visit to Shitaovriki to perform this verification, he returned to Verdishang to begin his research regarding the artifacts.

Eventually, he was able to discern the location of the artifacts as well as discover who was in possession of Kavrenthak's journals and planbook. Seeing an opportunity to further serve Amaeus and Rhzoreck, he worked toward obtaining all four of the required items. He was able to enlist a group of thieves to obtain the parts of the Triad, but met resistance when attempting to obtain the books. Despite this, the books were turned over to him right at the moment he started to believe that he would need to pull out all the stops. With everything in hand, he was able to fulfill his role and provide Amaeus and Rhzoreck with the remainder of the Triad as well as the books.

Career

University of Arcane Knowledge

Equae is legally employed as a professor at the University of Arcane Knowledge. He teaches Primal magic to the students who attend the University, although he makes most of his income with more illicit activities. His lessons primarily focus on having respect for the elements and on methods of using Primal magic in supportive ways, instead of destructive ways. He is, though, a firm believer in self-defense, so he does teach a few courses on using Primal magic offensively.

Invisible Union

Equae is also part of the Invisible Union, an organization comprised of individuals engaged in criminal exploits. He did not seek out the Union initially, but in fact was invited into it by the guildmaster after the other man failed to rob him of valuable research notes. He enjoys putting his skills to use, especially when dealing with the students of the University who are all too eager to do anything they can to become more powerful mages. He is incredibly skilled at locating artifacts of great power, even those that have not been seen for extensive periods, and is also skilled in persuasive techniques that assist him in talking people out of artifacts they currently possess.
