Depending on the culture they are part of, they may do magic in service to others or raise through the ranks of their culture by becoming increasingly competent at magic. For example, wizards in [[Heritage:Fjallmenn|Fjallmenn]] culture consider [[Category:Court Mages|court mage]] to be the best position available, while wizards in [[Heritage:Caeluvex|Caeluvex]] culture do not consider themselves successful until they are granted their own land by their respective leader.
