Scholars are academically-minded people who make a living by performing research. Many scholars gain steady employment as translators for textual documents, as educators, or through working with a private citizen on a specific assignment. Others, however, prefer to do their own research. These individuals will go out of their way, sometimes entering into dangerous situations, in order to gain new knowledge about something they are interested in. They do this with the intention of publishing any of their findings, where they hope to profit off of selling their discoveries to the masses. This is a generally unpredictable career path, and most scholars who decide to delve into dangerous locations for their research wind up dead.
