Caeluvex

The Caeluvex are a group of elves marked by their black or grey skin and glowing red, orange, or purple eyes. They currently reside in the rainforest of Vethrala, although they hail from an unknown foreign land to the east.

Culture

Magic

The Caeluvex exist within a culture that highly values skill in magic. There are several noble "houses" which maintain individual focuses on specific magical disciplines, and members can rise through the ranks of their house by improving their skills in that magical discipline. It is possible to leave the house one was born into in order to pursue a high rank in another house, although a person may only do so once. After changing their allegiance, either by marriage, adoption by a current member, or by entering as a low rank, one is not permitted to change their allegiance again. This means that someone cannot return to their previous house or choose a different one later.

Pre-Awakening 1,202

The Caeluvex of ancient times were highly devoted to Umbrex and his teachings. They were ruled by a man named Raevoth Tharivol, who also served as the champion of Umbrex, the Ebony Vindicator. Devotion to Umbrex was shown in many ways, including allowing trials by combat and zero prosecution for those who wrought destruction in his name. Despite the destructive nature of their worship, their habits did not cause their society to fail in the way that the Zyrkari civilization did. Instead, their love for Umbrex kept them connected, and they created various methods for solving problems that did not require total destruction of their holdings.

Awaking 1,202 - Harmonic 762

After the death of Raevoth during the events of the Vanishment, Caeluvex society pointedly turned away from Umbrex and they felt that he had abandoned them by allowing their emperor to die. In lieu of his worship, they began worshiping various other deities, with different noble houses choosing ones different from each other. Common deities were:

• Morovath
• Vorathil
• and Ezethion

although many others were worshiped to a lesser extent. During this time, new norms emerged. The most notable addition to their society was the legalization of murder, which granted immunity to anyone who successfully killed another person. This came with stipulations, of course, in that the murder must have been done by their own hand and with the intention to commit the attack announced ahead of time to give the other person sufficient opportunity to defend themself. Murders committed via stealth, proxy, or that were otherwise unannounced remained punishable by the temple, as these were deemed to be cowardly attacks and not ones done with respect to the other person. This was put forth as a method of worshiping Morovath.

Post-Harmonic 762

Following the events of Starfall and the return of Raevoth, the Caeluvex abandoned the religious methods of the previous eras to return to the worship of Umbrex. While there is no one who can vouch for the similarities between the ancient religious practices and those of the modern age, many believe that the current methods of worship are incredibly similar to what was being done in the earlier days of their civilization.
