Heritage

In the land of Zyrkthraan, there are a great many people hailing from a great many lands. All of these people can be categorized in different ways. Most typically, individuals are categorized first by their culture, then by their background, and then, as a last resort, by their heritage.

Heritage is defined by an individual's genetic lineage, such as being an Aurilore or a Nauroxian. Some elves descend from multiple different heritages, so they are affectionately called "Einkyn," meaning "two-family" in Sunspeak. Many individuals do not share a common culture despite sharing a common heritage, but this is not unusual. Only some rare, closed-off societies have a majority population that shares both a common heritage and a common culture.

Common Heritages

Most people in Zyrkthraan belong to a common heritage, one that is populous and easily recognizable. These are the:

  • Amaranthir, known for their mercantile skills
  • Aurilore, known for their high magic skills
  • Caeluvex, known for their isolationism and overall harsh dispositions
  • Eldarathi, known for their dedication to preserving nature
  • Faren, known for their ability to adapt to any new situation
  • Fjallmenn, known for their ability to shapeshift into other living things
  • Marola, known for their underwater civilizations
  • Mykkir, known for their brutal hunting styles
  • Nauroxian, known for their intense physical presence and strength of arm
  • Pangarid, known for their affinity for alchemical concoctions
  • Quesir, known for their unmatched stealth
  • Talvin, known for their reverence to the Great Tree

Extinct Heritages

Some heritages have become extinct over the course of the years. They are the:

  • Duuema*, known for their elaborate technological advancements
  • Kroeven, known for their obsession with blood magic
  • Nivalii, known for their now-abandoned snow-laden structures
  • Zyrkari, known for their propensity to always be at war

* Note that the Duuema may not be considered extinct by the epilogue of The Beginning
