Anhres

Anhres is a province located on the landmass of Hedaware. It is considered the largest province and is primarily home to the Fjallmenn, although it has been home to other cultures in the past.

Landscape

The land of Anhres is varied. Because of the small size of Zyrkthraan, the province spans enough area that it contains rainforests in the south and snowy tundra in the north. Between those points are seasonal forests and empty plains. Anhres is the most diverse province on Zyrkthraan, with its varied landscape being home to a large array of flora and fauna.

Crestwood Forest

The Crestwood Forest is one of the most prominent areas in Anhres. This seasonal forest forms as the rainforest in the south dwindles, stretching up to around the middle of the province and spreading north-west and into Moya Ardhi. After the fall of the Kroeven civilization in the Awakening, the Fjallmenn moved into the forest and proceeded to build multiple cities.

Coldwater River

The Coldwater River is the largest river in Anhres, and serves as a primary trading route. It runs through the Crestwood Forest south-east, starting in the Flycat Mountains and ending on the south-eastern shore of Anhres. It is noted for its incredibly cold water, despite mainly existing in a warmer area of Anhres.

Sharpfang Mountains

The Sharpfang Mountains are a range of mountains located in north-central Anhres. They are most known for being home to the Drekizugon, thought by the Fjallmenn to be the birthplace of the god of dragons.

Cultures

Anhres is currently home to the Fjallmenn, a group of people who trace their ancestry to the continent of Sheydal. Previously, the province was home to other cultures:

• The Kroeven until Awa 2,654
• The Zyrkari until Awa 1,221
• The Duuema until Awa 1,202

None of these cultures still reside in Anhres in the modern age. However, evidence of their civilizations still exists in many places. Adventurers can find Kroeven ruins in the Crestwood Forest, Zyrkari ruins in the southern rainforest, and Duuema ruins scattered throughout the province.

The entire story within The Beginning takes place within Anhres, save for the Prologue and Chapter 25 which take place in Vethrala.

Author Note

The name "Anhres" was inspired by a friend of the author, Anh Huynh. Anh was once a casual fanfiction reader who was the first person to leave a kind comment on the author's first published fanfiction on Archive of Our Own. Since then, they have been one of the largest supporters for the development of The Zyrkthraan Chronicles.
