Shadow:Good

What is Goodness? Is it the sunlight that illuminates and warms the planet? Or is it the cool night when it is safe to travel the desert? Is it the act of sharing everything you have with others, or holding onto those things that you need so that you may succeed? Goodness does not have a single definition, nor should it. Things are never so black and white.

There will always be conflict between the Light and the Shadow. There will always be a reason to join one side or the other, and sometimes those reasons are identical. There will always be someone who is doing the right thing for a good reason, and another who is doing the right thing for a bad reason. In fact, there will be those who do the wrong thing for a good reason as well as those who do the wrong thing for a bad reason. Life is multifaceted and there are millions upon millions of different ways that any situation can proceed.

You may believe that the Light can beget only goodness, because creation is positive. You may believe that Shadow begets only badness, because lack is negative. We have already talked about this though, haven't we? You know that such a thing isn't the case. There are good aspects and bad aspects to everything. What is terrible for one person is ideal for another. This is the way of the world. This is what we must know, what we must do, so that life carries on as it should.

Remember: A person who does a good deed for a selfish reason has still done the same amount of goodness as someone who has done a good deed for a selfless reason. We must weigh the action with the intent against the result to divine the level of goodness for each thing. Many times, there will be bad things. Many times also, there will be good things. One person may find a deed to be wholly evil, while another determines it to be wholly good. Mortals are strange in that way. Regardless, it is valuable to look at each different thing from many angles.

Perhaps with time, you may see that the Light cannot exist without the Shadow, just the same as the Shadow cannot exist without the Light.
