Shadow:Loss

Loss is Astkalthen's realm. She has suffered immense loss herself, so she understands how terribly it can affect someone. When something is destroyed, either physically or otherwise, and you no longer have that thing, you may find yourself becoming sad, angry, or any other number of feelings. This is good, even if you do not think so. You must allow these natural feelings to occur so that you can process the loss and move on.

Sometimes we lose things that are very important. We lose people that we love, irreplaceable items, safety and security, and a great many other things. No one loss is any better or worse than another, either. What may seem trivial to one person may spell the greatest tragedy to another. I am sure that you understand that. I know that you have lost something that someone else decided was nothing to be upset over. They would tell you that it wasn't that great to begin with, or that you can get another similar one for a low price, or that you can live without it and the only reason you are upset is because losing it has forced you to live in a different way.

These things, belittling your loss, are unhelpful. You are not being given the time and space to adjust to that thing not existing for you anymore. You will seek to replace the thing as soon and as fully as possible, perhaps even making poor choices in order to do so. Especially if it is something you relied on frequently, the urge to find a replacement will become tantamount. And, perhaps filling the void right then is the best option. Although, perhaps it is not.

I think, for many things, the thing we have lost cannot be properly replaced wholly and truly. It does us no good to believe that it can be. We must only seek out something that will perform the same function, even if it is different in many ways. It is difficult, when the thing you had originally was perfect, but you existed before you had that thing and you will continue to exist after you have lost it. No matter how difficult it may seem, it is possible to do without.
