Automalia
Automalia are mechanical creatures crafted by the Duuema. These machines are treated more like animals than machines, though, with much of their work being reliant on their ability to behave in a similar fashion to the living creature their designs are based off of.
There are different types of automalia across all of the Duuema cultures:
- Chichlin, used in Anhres and Setosia for machinery repair
- Maka'ole Spiders, used within Vethrala for machinery repair
- Pyrine, used primarily in Vethrala (but occasionally in other locations) for combat purposes
- Mierzchu, used in Anhres for mining purposes
In addition to automalia constructed for work purposes, many crafters also create smaller automalia to serve as companions in much the same way as other cultures kept living creatures as pets. These smaller mechanisms are popular among children, and parents enjoy using them to teach their children about responsibility. It is well-known that the construction of automalia requires a very specific part, called a heartstone, that can be imbued with the spirit of a living creature. By doing this, the crafters enable the machines to behave even more similarly to the living versions, which leads many who own automalia to grow attached to them as others would a living pet.
The knowledge surrounding construction and utilization of automalia has historically been a closely-guarded secret of the Duuema, however, in the Harmonic era, Rhzoreck Thrkhav taught many people those secrets. This effectively erased any mystery regarding the machines and enabled those from other cultures to make attempts to create their own automalia.
